Nathan Maynard

Nathan is an 18-year educator and youth worker who has served years as a residential treatment specialist with violent offenders to becoming a successful school administrator. He has directly worked with students across high-complexity need environments and traditional school settings. He’s a global best-selling author of Hacking School Discipline and The Science of Discipline, and his work is used by educators in over 30 countries and most US states. He is known for translating complex human behavior into practical systems that educators can use under real-world pressure. He is a leading voice in the global movement to reimagine school discipline. Through his writings, hands-on work in complex schools, and building alternative programming across US schools, he helps educators confront one of the hardest questions in education: How to hold students accountable without losing their humanity. Nathan is also the founder of the award-winning organization Highfive, which partners with schools and districts to revitalize data-driven, logical, tiered discipline systems away from outdated reactive systems. Outside of his work, he’s a father and someone who genuinely believes schools shape society.
