Powtoon: Fun, High-Quality Videos Made Easy

…looks like a great resource – thanks for sharing! I enjoy having these resources available, especially if I can give students an option (e.g. make a Powtoon OR a stop-action lego video). As always, though, becoming adept at the software is not as important as using the software to demonstrate mastery of the material/target skill. Do you have tips for assessing critical thinking projects or example rubrics for technology-based assignments? Debbie Sachs Hi, Ashlea! As with any rubric, I think it’s just really important to first know the intent of the project. If the intent is to learn how to…

…started tomorrow teaching argument. It’s always something that I have struggled with, and I’ve been teaching for 18 years. I have a class of 31 students, mostly boys, several with IEPs. The self-paced mini-lessons will help tremendously. Debbie Sachs So glad you liked it, Britney! Trish D. My students will begin the journey into persuasion and argument next week and your post cemented much of my thinking around how to facilitate the journey towards effective, enthusiastic argumentative writing. I use your rubrics often to outline task expectations for my students and the feedback from them is how useful breaking every…

Can-Do Descriptors: A Free Tool for ESL Differentiation

…the Can Do Descritpros. The site also offers templates of these for K to 12. Readers have found the templates very helpful. https://www.empoweringells.com/grading-newcomers/ Ashlea Betzen We recently moved to “can” descriptors to align our English for Academic Purposes program with CEFR and we love them. Instead of “demonstates proficiency in” or “shows understanding of”, our rubrics are set to “can give” and “can identify.” It’s more transparent for the students as well. Elaine Johnson Hi, there! Do you know if anyone has done a crosswalk between the MYP Language B Phases and the WIDA Levels? Thanks! Eric Wenninger Hey Elaine,…
